Using Guitar pedals with narration

Hi there,

I am interested in whether it is possible to use the effects from two guitar pedals that I own (reverb and delay) to enhance audio narration.

What I have at the moment is microphone (Rode NT4+) into dbx 286s into a mixer, then into a Denon solid state digital recorder. I prefer to record to SD card and then load into the computer, rather than connect direct to a DAW. I’m very happy with that. I have been considering buying a dbx equaliser, and I already own the two pedals (I’m also a guitarist).

So, what would be the best signal chain if I wanted to add in EQ, and some reverb and/or delay effects? I’m not an expert at this, but I think:

Microphone to dbx 286s to dbx equaliser, then to mixer, then to guitar pedals and back into mixer, then to recorder? Or is there a better way? I’m unsure if it is possible to plug the dbx equaliser direct into guitar pedals as there may be a mismatch in impedance?

Thanks

James

Yep, you can totally use guitar pedals for narration! Your signal chain sounds solid. The dbx EQ should work fine going into pedals. Experiment with the order of effects for best results. Have fun playing around with it!

Thanks Mike. Just unsure about whether it’s safe to plug a pre-amp/EQ direct into the pedals. I don’t particularly want to have any electrical over/under-cooking, certainly not to cause any damage to any component.

I’ll order the EQ, then give it all a try.

Thanks again.

James
